Nationality, Canada And You.

Filling out that "Xanga More About Me" Section of the site i came across "Nationality" Well i'm Canadian, i was born here as was my mother, and my father has been living here since he was seven. So that means i'm Canadian Right? (Sorry For The Camel Font, I Like It :)

In Canada we ask each other all the time when we first meet, its in the same line of questions as "What is your favorite color" because of our 'rich' different cultural backings we usually ask each other "what's your nationality?" And people say to each other "Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Mexican, Spanish, Italian" I hail from the last, though i was not born in italy nor have i ever been, Or plan on going.

I'm Canadian, not Italian, i have Italian in my blood for sure but i'm a canadian citizen, thats where i'm from thats where my loyalties lay. When i see things going on between an italian and a portuguese descendent arguing back and forth i can't help but think "you're not ether of those things, you're canadian, you have a strong cultural backing but its not where you're from" You can ask 100 canadian citizens "What is your nationality" and you'll get two people saying canada, one person because their family settled here(they're probably going to be about 100lb over weight) and then the other who is going to be smart enough to tell you something like "well, i'm canadian, but my bloodline goes back to south america"

Because even though every single canadian citizen loves their country and has a deep spout into it. When Canada does something they say "only up here would we start research to figure out what would really happen in a zombie outbreak" or "figures canada figures out how to make a lung live outside the body" We're attached to it, Vimmy ridge is our story, burning down the whitehouse, things we talk about and know canada has done and are proud to be apart of yet, we never once leave our background from when we came over here... We're always going to be Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Its just not something we can change.

So i urge the next time someone asks you from where you hail you say "Canada, but my (grand)parents came from Italy"
